I am Korean born British and yes, I have been to the Wagamama. Never out of my choice mind you...5 times in total with my English friends.
I always wish I had gone to the Mc Donalds instead!
There are lovely authentic Vietnamese, Korean, Thai restaurants all over London( with a bit of leg work) and prices are very reasonable.
I Have recently re located to Singapore for few years and I miss Tapas and my local Vietnamese place....

For the people who say that they simply reinvent the flavors for more Western tastes, yeah...it's just plain awful food. I've had cheesecake factory's version of asian noodles and although it wasn't authentic there was no denying that it was good. I've had frozen meals I bought from my Supermarket that were asian inspired and they weren't bad. Good food is good food and it's all about the execution of the idea. If you were going to do fusion, do it right.

I first visited Wagamama three years ago and still remember going there...because of the awful food. I ordered a ginger chicken noodle dish. Everything was just thrown together and they used the pink japanese ginger instead of regular ginger. It made it so bitter--flavors were totally mismatched. You could tell that whoever cooked this had no idea what asian food was all about. Never went back ever again and never will. I've got a Chinatown close by, why would I want to pay for horrible imitation Asian food? For that matter, why would anyone else?

I live in England (but I'm American) and I've only been to wagamama there. I went ONCE and it was awful. I will never, ever, ever go back there. It's expensive in the UK from what I remember too and there are a lot better restaurants!

When I started a new job a co-worker tried to impress me by saying she had lots of "Asian roommates" and loved Asian food especially "wagamama." *eyeroll*

the standards which wagamama follows and quality of food which this chain possess , simply you don't have any idea about that. surely if people are visiting it more often there is something attracting in there menu and food which attracts them.. as many of you may like one food but other one , because of its culture, taste, or its pocket may not like it.

I've been to Wagamama once, in the UK, and compared with all the other "Asian fusion" food I've had in the UK and Spain, it was pretty good.
That may tell you something about the quality of so-called Asian food in Europe. I diplomatically say that Asian food in Europe is strongly "internationalised" to the tastes of the locals, who love it that way. Dave is right: it's definitely not targeted at Asians who want Asian food.

Agreed that it tastes bad but its definitely not targeted at Asians given Wagamama is headquarter in the UK albeit started by British-Chinese guy.

I agree. I have eaten only once in Wagamama, and while I won't say it was horrible, it didn't get more than a "meh" from me.
And at the prices they charge, you want more than just "meh".

And who in their right mind deep-fries a gyoza?
